Before We Go...

Yes, we are leaving town once again. Next week marks the beginning of the Christianson Family Reunion/Grandma's 80th birthday celebration! Stella and I leave on Tuesday for a week long visit to MN, while Nick will join us for a long weekend once he gets through the work week. But, before we go, I thought I should add a couple of photos to let everyone know what we've been up to. This week, we haven't done much...both Stella and I have had summertime colds. I thought she only had a cough and runny nose because she is getting three new teeth, but once I started coughing and feeling stuffed up, I knew that the teeth weren't the only thing to blame. So, we've layed low, trying to heal ourselves before we head out of town. Here's Stella putting her feet up after a long, hard day (check out that belly!):I'm still a "mean mommy" and limit her TV watching to almost none at all. It just kills me that she knows exactly where the most comfy and best viewing spot on the couch is even though I don't let her watch anything except for the music stations.
Notice she has sunglasses, a kazoo and a number of magazines to help her feel better. Isn't that the usual cure for the common cold?

One of our new favorite activities is teaching Stella how to "play" the guitar when Daddy gets home from work. It's such fun to watch him attempt to show her where to put her fingers. She sits so patiently, listening to everything Nick is saying. Mostly though I think she would rather get up and dance.

Our little girl will be 17 months old, 3 days from now. She can count to two, she tries to swat bugs and says, "bug" right after her attempted swat, she LOVES blowing bubbles, takes her shoes off anytime she's in a carseat or stroller, is starting to help dress and undress herself, eats with a fork and spoon (most of the time...but it's still faster to use her hands), holds my hand when we cross the street or walk through parking lots, participates in storytime at the library and tries to do the motions with each song, throws things away in the trash when asked, knows to not touch the stuff in the trash "YUCKY"...we continue to be amazed at how smart she is. I just hope we're teaching her enough everyday. Am I missing opportunities? Am I giving her all she needs? I'm sure these are questions that I'll always be asking myself. Overall...we're having more fun than ever!
