Anyway, thanks for letting me get that off of my chest.
Let's see...the update...Stella is 10 months old today!!!
She has been an expert at climbing stairs for a couple of months now, but the newest development is that she knows how to turn around and go down backwards! We are never more than a couple of inches away from her the whole time she does it, for safety purposes, of course. But, she rarely needs assistance. She's pretty independent on that one.
Her dietary tastes are ever-changing. The other day I heated up left-over pork tenderloin for lunch and she basically ate my entire portion. Interesting palate for a 10 month old.
She continues to cruise around holding on to furniture and will stand by herself for a few seconds at a time. We're still waiting for her to attempt that first unassisted step!
We met our new pediatrician this week (who is wonderful...thank you, Lauren!!).
She is making friends at our new gym...although she has a strange way of doing it. When I picked her up a few days ago, the girl that was working in the children's center asked me if she used a pacifier and I answered, "yes, but only at bedtime." She was amused as she shared with me that Stella "swiped" away many pacifiers from the other children while she was there that day. Children be warned...Stella will take what she wants from you! ;)
Tub time with Daddy is still a favorite part of the day. This is how I found her the other night:
She stayed on her back, kicking and playing for a few minutes. We're always trying out new things!
There is plenty of random gabbing...mamamamamas and dadadadadas are frequent, but I'm pretty certain she still doesn't associate those words with us specifically.
The words she definitely knows are, "in the bed." When she gets up in the morning or from naps, she has a pacifier in her mouth and another one in her hand (don't ask why there are two...there used to be three) anyway, when you tell her to put them in the bed, she will spit one out and throw the other one in her crib. It's been going on for a few weeks now and we are very impressed.
Oh and she now knows how to stick out her tongue and spit. It's very ladylike. (strong sarcasm here) Just make sure you don't get caught in the spray if she has food in her mouth. WATCH OUT! I got hit today with "Garden Vegetables." YUM!
Oh, speaking of food...Stella would like to challenge any child out there to a pear eating contest. She can down a half a pear (and that's only because I won't let her have an entire one) in under two minutes. It's a little gross, but pretty impressive at the same time. Grandma Freeman sent her a package from Harry and David and she ate them all. Didn't share one with me or Nick. Hmmmm...
I know sometimes I talk like she's the only child who has ever done any of this and that she's more amazing than any other baby (and in my opinion, she is)...but if you have your own kids, you know what I mean. Everything really is quite amazing. How does she learn the stuff that she knows? Yeah, some of it we can take credit for, but some of it is just instinct. It's fascinating. There are long, tiresome days, void of interaction with adults...but I still love it. I love being home with her. I love the smile that greets me when I get her up from a nap or how she giggles when I surprise her. I love it all!
I'm not sure if I'll blog while we're traveling or not. Check and see. I might just have to post some Christmas photos or video if I get the chance.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR TOO! What a blessing to celebrate such a wonderful time of year. And to not be politically correct for a moment...I hope that you remember the true reason for the season. This is Jesus's birthday. One of the most amazing days that our world has ever known. That is how Christmas started...not with Santa, not with toys and trees, but with a birthday. And it's fine for people to believe other things, but this is what our family believes and celebrates and I feel that if people really want to be politically correct, then they have to allow me to believe in that.
--sorry for the soapbox moment, but I just had to get that out...and thanks for hanging in there on this one...lots of words, few photos...we'll change that next time
